An Independent Tribunal will commence its work on Monday 16 May 2022 , to inquire and
investigate allegations against a judge of the High Court working in line with the principles of
natural justice.
The Office of Te Beretitenti has received complaints and allegations from t he public against
Puisne Judge David Lambourne, for his in ability to perform functions of his office and his
misbehavior, and whether the judge should be removed from office. In response to these
allegations from the public, an Independent Tribunal has been established by Te Beretitenti by
virtue of s83(4) of the Constitution, and members of the Tribunal took their oath on Friday 13
May 2022. The Independent Tribunal will inquire and carry out investigations on the
allegations against the judge of the High Court with facts reported to the Maneaba ni Maungatabu. The Tribunal was given 100 d ays to complete its assignm ent and submit its
report before Parliament meeting in August 2022. The Tribunal is obliged to work in line with the principles of natural justice.
